Persuasive Technologies and Self-awareness: A Discussion of Screen-time Management Applications

Persuasive technologies are interactive systems designed to change and shape users’ behaviours towards specific goals. By discussing the case of screen-time management applications, this paper explores how persuasive transform self-awareness self’s cognitive architecture. Drawing on notion tectonoetic awareness, I will illustrate artefacts enable transition from temporal bounded experience characterizing first-person perspective (noetic awareness) ability reflecting oneself a third person temporally extended (autonoetic awareness). argue that make possible new modalities self-recognition self-projection while they simultaneously affect sense agency by interfering with actions intentions.
